Steelwork in for Melton Mowbray bypass bridge
Working on behalf of main contractor Galliford Try, Briton Fabricators has installed the bridge beams for the new River Eye Bridge in Leicestershire.
Forming an important element of the £85M North East Melton Mowbray Distributor Road, the steelwork for the 54m-long bridge consisted of six beams. These were delivered to site and erected as three braced pairs, using a 450t-capacity mobile crane.
Overall, 145t of steelwork was installed during the operation, including ductwork that was lifted into place using a 70t-capacity mobile crane.
The road project, procured through the Midlands Highways Alliance and part-funded by the Department for Transport, will eventually see a new route connect branches of the A606, bypassing the centre town and easing congestion.
