Main contractor Morgan Sindall has started preliminary work on Ardrossan Community Campus, the first phase of a wider redevelopment masterplan. It will consist of secondary and primary schools, a public library, a gym, fitness studios and a swimming pool. Further developments could include housing and commercial office spaces.
Work has begun on converting a brownfield site in Bilston, Wolverhampton into the 15-acre Foundry Business Park. Being developed by Goold Estates, with Caddick Construction appointed as main contractor, the scheme, which will consist of 15 industrial units (ranging in size from 762m2 to 19,200m2), is aiming to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
Mace has been appointed as construction manager for the £1.1bn British Library extension scheme. Working with development manager Stanhope, the company will oversee a significant enlargement of the St Pancras site, with 9,290m2 of exhibition galleries, event spaces and learning facilities.
McLaughlin & Harvey has been appointed as main contractor for a new surgical centre at the Guys and St Thomas’ hospital site in south London. The eight-storey centre will be dedicated to non-emergency surgery and include six operating theatres, 17 recovery rooms, and a discharge lounge.
YTL Developments has received planning approval for its landmark Grade-A office building, that will be the gateway to the Brabazon scheme, which is taking shape on the former Filton Airfield in Bristol. Designed by AHR Architects and aiming for a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating, the eight-storey office development will be located directly above Brabazon’s new railway station.
Developer Landsec has begun work on the first office block to break ground in the North West this year. Known as The Republic, the building represents the first phase of the Mayfield Park scheme, which will transform a formerly derelict 24-acre site next to Piccadilly station into a thriving, green, mixed-use district.
