 Metsec’s in-house design team has gained international recognition for its work on a new accommodation building at the UK’s oldest specialist music school. Entered in the Special Projects category of AceCAD’s International Project Competition 2010-11, Metsec’s designs for the five-storey, light gauge steel framed structure at Purcell School achieved a ‘Highly Commended’ award.

The Institution of Structural Engineers has produced new guidance to help engineers reduce the carbon footprint of the projects they design. The Institution’s short guide to Embodied Carbon in Building Structures provides the essential guidance to structural engineers to enable them to contribute to reducing both embodied carbon and energy footprint.

SCI’s website, www.steel-sci.com has been re-vamped to more clearly demonstrate the institute’s technical information offerings and consultancy capabilities. A new key feature is that users can access each of SCI’s information resources such as its Eurocode support websites and its online library of technical guidance and data, Steelbiz through a carousel displayed on the home page.

Kingspan Insulated Panels is celebrating the completion of the next phase of its ongoing drive towards sustainable manufacturing with the installation of one of its latest product developments at the state of the art manufacturing facility at Holywell. 2,900m² of Kingspan Roof PowerPanel System photovoltaic modules have now been installed and fully commissioned on the roof of one of the south facing manufacturing buildings.
