Cornish trail to be enhanced with new steel bridge

Posted on by in News

Working on behalf of main contractor Costain, Nusteel Structures is fabricating a walking, cycling and horse-riding (WCH) bridge to be installed over the busy, and recently widened, A30 in Cornwall.

As well as crossing the busy trunk road, the bridge will also form part of the wider Saints Trails project, which aims to create a series of safe walking, cycling and horse-riding routes between St Agnes and Threemilestone, near Truro.

With an overall weight of 92t, the single span 48m-long open-truss bridge is being fabricated in four sections. Once complete, Nusteel will undertake a trial erection of the bridge at its yard in Kent, before disassembling the structure and transporting it to site.

It will then be re-assembled on a plot close to its final position, before being lifted into place later this year.

The bridge works are part of National Highways ongoing £330M A30 dualling scheme, which is due to complete early in 2024.
