Steel sector pays tribute to Mike Fewster
All those working in the construction industry who knew Mike Fewster will mourn his all too early passing, as he was a very significant force within the structural steelwork sector.
Mike worked for Billington Structures from 1986 to 1991, returning to work for the company from 2000 to 2011 as Technical Director and then Operations Director.
In between these two periods, he was employed as Managing Director of Caunton Engineering (1994 to 1999), where he was also a Non-Executive Director from 2021 to 2022.
For both companies, he was instrumental in innovating and introducing new technology, and was recognised by his peers for driving industry standards forward.
In the interim, he worked at the Steel Construction Institute and was involved with the CIMSteel project, which as well as developing the early integration standards for software, produced a number of design guides.
Caunton were already skilled in CAD, and as the company launched into CAM, Mike’s expertise in CAD/CAM helped the transition enormously. At Billington, his strong passion also contributed to innovation and the introduction of new technology.
Mike Fewster was a true professional and knew the importance of setting and maintaining high standards.
