Steel completed for Bolton medical college

Posted on by in News

Working on behalf of Willmott Dixon, Leach Structural Steelwork has fabricated, supplied and erected 390t of steelwork for the Bolton College of Medical Sciences (BCMS).

The five-storey steel frame incorporates, offices, canteen, kitchen, library and training rooms that will help people learn healthcare skills in a live hospital environment.

A 14m-long truss, positioned at first floor level, creates the column-free space for a ground floor teaching auditorium.

University of Bolton President and Vice-Chancellor Professor George E Holmes said: “BCMS is arguably one of the most significant projects delivered in the North West in decades.

“Not only will it increase employment prospects in the local area and make healthcare professions more accessible, but it will also help alleviate NHS staffing pressures in Greater Manchester and provide improved levels of care in our community.”
