New music venue for Sheffield city centre
Willmott Dixon has been selected by Sheffield City Council to deliver the £14.4 million Event Central, a landmark project that will repurpose a former retail building on Fargate into a cutting-edge music venue and collaborative workspace.
Plans for the project include structural modifications to create a two-storey atrium, strengthening works to accommodate revised requirements, alterations to the building’s façade, and a complete fit-out of the music venue and workspace elements.
On the ground floor, there will be a 200-person capacity space for exhibitions and community events, alongside a café/bar area, while the four upper floors will be dedicated to co-working space and meeting rooms.
Chris Yates, Yorkshire Director at Willmott Dixon, said: “We’re delighted to play our part in the regeneration of Fargate, creating a space designed to empower this city’s boundless creativity.”
Councillor Ben Miskell, Chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee at Sheffield City Council added: “Sheffield is home to some legendary venues. We want Event Central to be added to that list. The transformation of the building into this fantastic space will take place right before people’s eyes and will cap off the regeneration of Fargate.”
