The latest Structural Steelwork in Action report is available in the December issue of New Civil Engineer (NCE) magazine, which can be viewed at: www.steelconstruction.info

Published in association with the British Constructional Steelwork Association and Steel for Life, the supplement showcases four innovative steelwork projects and features an article explaining how steel delivers the required vibration performance for multi-storey buildings.

An 11-storey steel-framed development rising up in the centre of Coventry is one of the highlighted projects. Known as Friargate, the building is the first scheme in the city’s large regeneration plans for the area adjacent to the main railway station.

Some of the world’s longest wind turbine blades will be produced at a new Siemens facility currently under construction in Hull. The manufacturing process will be housed in a large steel-framed multi-span structure measuring approximately 300m long by 116m wide.

To help gain planning permission for a new commercial development in the City of London, an existing core has been refurbished and heightened with a new steel-framed office block being constructed around it.

Motorists using London’s Blackwall Tunnel will have noticed the elaborate 49m-tall steel flue stack which has been built adjacent to the tunnel’s southern entrance as part of the Greenwich Peninsula Low Carbon Energy Centre project.
