Nottingham super GP surgery gets the go-ahead

Designs for the UK’s largest GP surgery have been given the go-ahead by Nottingham city planners

CPMG Architects’ design proposals will see a £9M state-of-the-art healthcare facility replace the 50-year-old Cripps Health Centre in Nottingham.

The new centre, built on behalf of the University of Nottingham, will be used by more than 40,000 patients and provide space to support national research projects.

Situated on the University Park Campus, the new centre will house 31 consultant rooms, a four-bed patient observation room, a pharmacy, a physiotherapy room, four rooms for primary care procedures, four rooms dedicated to mental health services, a seminar room and eight dental treatment rooms across 3,000m²_.

CPMG Director Nick Gregory said: “As the largest healthcare facility of its kind in the country, this will be a flagship centre for the university and one we’re proud to be involved in. Owing to the prime location on the campus, it was vital our designs complimented the landscape; natural materials will provide a timeless palette within the rich green surroundings.

“The GP and dental accommodation are located in separate wings, which pivot along the contours from a shared double-height central zone which hosts the entrance and reception functions. The space between the wings is used as a wellbeing garden”.

He added: “We have an expanding portfolio of higher education and health buildings and this centre allows us to combine the two – it will be a fantastic addition to the campus and to primary care service provision in the city of Nottingham”.

The building is aiming to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and will include 14% renewables.

The construction team includes Arup, Gleeds and Faithful and Gould. A contractor is yet to be appointed.
