First students welcomed to steel-framed Coventry city centre accommodation

Coventry City Council, main contractor Winvic Construction and luxury accommodation providers CODE Student Accommodation have officially marked the completion of the steel frame of the city’s new tallest building.

At an event, they celebrated the handover of the first 315 bedrooms, gym, laundry and office facilities accommodated in one of the project’s four blocks.

“The Winvic team has proved time and again that they are more than capable of going above and beyond, and we are happy to be able to say we were a key player in Winvic’s growth in the student accommodation sector,” said CODE Director Jamie Lewis.

The delivered phase of the project comprises one 14-storey block and, when completed, there will be four interlocked blocks, of 17, 20 and 23 storeys, making it Coventry’s tallest building with panoramic views across the City.

Each of the self-contained student bedrooms will contain a fully fitted kitchen, including fridge, freezer, microwave and integrated oven and hob, and a deluxe designer shower room; tenants will also feel safe in their new homes with the fob entrance system and the installation of CCTV.

A further 877 beds, totaling 1,192, a gym, cinema, open-plan communal spaces, landscaped rooftop terrace and three ground floor retail units will be handed over by August 2019, ready for a full house in the next academic year.

Caunton Engineering has fabricated, supplied and erected 1,800t of steel for the project.
