Approval given for London Bridge student high-rise

Posted on by in Weekly News

Southwark Council have approved plans for a 905-bed, 39-storey student block at a site next to London Bridge Station and Guy’s Hospital.

Developer Greystar’s 138m-tall tower has been designed by architect Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and will be built on a site currently occupied by a commercial building called Capital House.

The lower parts of the building will feature a series of V-shaped raking columns supporting a third-floor podium deck. The structure will also have an eye-catching faceted façade of perforated metal cladding.

The building replaces a previously approved plan for a 31-storey tower of 470 flats that was unofficially named The Quill.

The new structure will form an important element of the wider St Thomas Street East development, which has brought together four developers to deliver a new cultural and work space neighbourhood.
