Work set to start on £28 million Huddersfield Bus Station upgrade
Designed to improve local transport, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority in partnership with Kirklees Council, have appointed Willmott Dixon Construction to revamp Huddersfield Bus Station.
The upgraded station will become part of the Weaver Network, West Yorkshire’s new integrated transport system bringing together buses, trains, walking, wheeling, cycling and a future mass transit network under a single brand.
Inside the redesigned bus station, passengers will benefit from real-time bus and rail information screens to support connecting journeys, improved security measures and upgraded accessible toilet facilities, including a Changing Places toilet designed to meet the needs of people with a range of disabilities.
The redevelopment will also include a new entrance canopy, solar panels, a green roof, upgraded retail frontages, new cycle parking and improvements to public spaces surrounding the station.
Chris Yates, Yorkshire Director of Willmott Dixon, said: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Kirklees Council to transform Huddersfield Bus Station into a modern and sustainable transport hub to better connect people.
Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2028.
