Retail boost for Cork

Posted on by in News

Construction work is well under way on the 4,500t steel frame extension to the Douglas Village Shopping Centre in Cork, Ireland.

Steelwork contractor Walter Watson used more than 2,000t of Westok cellular beams on the project, including transfer cantilevers. These helped minimise weight and cost for the floors which typically span between 16m and 18m.

The project, anchored by a new Tesco store, includes retail, commercial and public amenities at ground floor level, with a three storey car park above.

The main contractor is Bowen Construction and the project is due for completion in 2009.
