Plans submitted to convert BT Tower into hotel 

MCR, owner of London’s iconic Grade II-listed BT Tower, has submitted a planning application to Camden Council to convert the 177m-tall structure into a 400-bed hotel. 

Designed by Orms Architects, the plans also include refurbishing the tower’s podium and the adjacent Howland Building, with new retail and commercial areas, as well as a visitor experience.  

The top of the tower would be made open to the public for the first time in nearly 50 years, with the 35^th floor viewing gallery restored. 

MCR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tyler Morse said: “Our vision has always been to honour the BT Tower’s remarkable history while reimagining its future. 

“Submitting our planning application is an exciting step towards reopening this landmark after almost 50 years, revitalising the area with new jobs and open space for Camden.” 

The BT Tower opened in 1964 and was then known as the Post Office Tower. With a revolving restaurant at its top, it was London’s tallest building for nearly 20 years. 

US-based hotel operator MCR, purchased the tower in 2024 and expects the redevelopment project to be completed by 2033.
