Steel construction at Newport Friars Walk, a project that will transform the South Wales city centre, is nearing completion with more than 6,000t of structural steelwork having so far been erected by Caunton Engineering.
The large steel-framed development consists of a three-storey Debenhams department store, a multi-screen cinema complex, a covered mall containing a number of two-level retail units and a basement car park.
The project team is working towards a series of phased handovers – first of which is for Debenhams in July – with the entire scheme expected to open in November. Main contractor for the project is Bowmer & Kirkland.
