New seat of learning takes shape

Posted on by in News

Graham Wood Structural is nearing completion of steelwork erection at the new campus for Sussex Coast College Hastings.

The new college building is a six storey steel framed structure based on four interlinked blocks with a large glazed atrium. There is also a basement car park for 329 cars.

The 21,120m² building also features a central covered ‘street’ which will create an open, but secure weather-proof environment for students and staff.

As part of main contractor Laing O’Rourke’s design and build contract, a new sub station will also be built. This facility will provide enough spare capacity to feed other projects in Hastings town centre.

The new college is scheduled to open in autumn 2009.
