Projects and Features
Modern by tradition

Celebrating 40 years of trading, BCSA Member and Steel for Life sponsor, National Tube Stockholders says it is proud of its continued commitment to the steel sector.
Established in 1985, National Tube Stockholders (NTS) has grown into a market leader and today it serves both the UK and Ireland steel markets with a dedicated fleet of trucks from its site in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
NTS is part of the Bianco Group, an international conglomerate of 23 companies spread across Europe and North America, which was founded in Italy in 1958.
The Bianco Group has principles of hard work and innovation and these have been key to NTS’ success – and have enabled the stockholder to maintain a flexible response to the changing demands of the steel industry.
Evolution not Revolution
As the industry has evolved, so has NTS. Since day one, the company says it has embraced state-of-the-art technology, which became an integral part of its identity. In a timeframe that spans the arrival of the internet, to fully digital systems, its core values have ensured NTS remains modern and relevant.
“We keep our feet firmly on the ground, never run before we can walk, and keep our word,” the company says. “Therefore, we have grown through providing reliability, which is at the centre of our work. It’s important to both suppliers and customers that they can count on us.
“At NTS, we are proud of being a true stockholder and therefore have a wide range of stock ready and available. An in-depth product knowledge, acquired over the years, also makes us what we are today. However, it’s our high levels of service that our customers value most, many of whom trust us to deliver and be a genuine partner in their projects.
“Over time, we are very proud to have worked on some landmark projects, including Wembley Stadium’s arch, The Shard and London 2012 Olympic Stadium.
“Alongside partnering with fabricators, we have built a strong track record within the oil & gas sector, supplying some high-profile North Sea projects including Culzean, Solan and Jackdaw. We have also supported the renewable energy revolution via the Moray West scheme in Scotland and numerous waste-to-energy projects throughout the UK.”
Today and Tomorrow
“Always looking to the future, we continue to embrace new systems and technology that enable us to tackle uncertainty and complexity, by working better and faster on behalf of our customers.
“Evolution of our working practices keeps our business approach relevant and aligned with our customers’ changing needs. These refinements come from constant improvements to our processes and operations – in picking times and loading times, to transport management and warehousing organisation.
“Our developments continue to focus on supporting our customers with their many challenges. This means offering them cost-effective solutions and alternatives for some labour-intensive operations.”
One of the latest processing enhancements at NTS is the addition of comprehensive laser tube profiling. The company’s facility contains four specialist tube laser machines, one of which is said to have the largest capability in the UK. To complete the offering, NTS also has an excellent technical team, using the latest CAD and Tekla design programmes.
The Modern Way
In summary, NTS says, the steel sector has significantly evolved over the past 40 years and so have we.
“We are proud that many of the relationships forged in the 1980s, with both suppliers and customers, have endured and continue today as testament to our longstanding passion for this industry.
“Throughout our time in business, we have always kept the same values, which have provided stability, growth and service. Above all, our customers continue to rely on us to deliver good old fashioned stockholding, the modern way.”
