Steel up in quick time for Panattoni’s big Nottinghamshire warehouse

Posted on by in Weekly News

More than 2,000t of structural steelwork has been erected in under eight weeks to form the latest warehouse at Panattoni Park Central A1(M) in Nottinghamshire.

According to developer Panattoni, the building is the largest single speculative unit currently under construction in the UK.

Being built by Winvic Construction, the warehouse stands 18m-tall to its haunch and measures 455m long x 150m wide. The 71,535m2 structure also includes a three-storey internal office block, and two external transport hubs.

Once complete, the warehouse will have 100 dock doors, eight level access doors, 595 car parking spaces and 217 HGV trailer parking spaces. There will also be a dedicated gatehouse.

Winvic Construction Project Manager Paul Samways, said: “In my experience, this has been one of the fastest steel frames (of its size) to be fully erected.

“Favourable weather definitely helped, but more importantly, ensuring the external yard slabs were fully prepared for the lifting equipment as well as a co-ordinated steelwork erection team all contributed to this speed of construction.”

Using a total of eight mobile cranes, with capacities of up to 100t, in conjunction with 14 MEWPs, the steelwork was erected by Caunton Engineering.

The distribution centre is due to be complete in September.
