Steel-framed Bedford school completes ahead of schedule
Students and staff are now making full use of Bedford Greenacre Independent School’s new premises, which were completed three months ahead of schedule.
Replacing outdated Victorian buildings, the new £24 million state-of-the-art school on the outskirts of Bedford, has 39 modern classrooms, specialised practical rooms, and a sports hall.
School Principal Ian Daniel, said: “There was an overwhelming sense of excitement and anticipation at the long-awaited opening.
“The new facilities will provide an inspiring and modern learning environment that will benefit generations of students to come, while also being environmentally friendlier in terms of energy.”
As previously reported in New Steel Construction, the school has a steel-framed design, with H Young Structures, working on behalf of Pellikaan Construction, erecting 305t of steelwork for the project.
Simon Reid, Managing Director at Lungfish Architects, said: “From the start, we ensured that efficiency and adaptability were placed at the heart of our Bedford Greenacre Independent School design concept, which proved particularly advantageous when Pellikaan Construction chose a steel frame structure.”
