Steel forms Ipswich residential scheme

Structural steelwork is the chosen framing solution for a residential project in central Ipswich consisting of 30 affordable flats.

Working on behalf of main contractor SEH French, SDM Fabrication is fabricating, supplying and erecting the steelwork as well as installing the project’s precast flooring.

Known as the Orwell Centre, the development is being led by Handford Homes, the housing development arm of Ipswich Borough Council.

SEH French Managing Director Simon Girling, said: “Affordable homes are an essential part of every community and we are thrilled to be working on this project.

“We share a commitment to providing high-quality places for people to live, which enhance the living standard’s in Ipswich.”

Councillor Colin Kreidewolf, Chair of Handford Homes, said: “Our forward-thinking housing programme delivers exceptional, affordably priced homes, incorporating shared green spaces, ample parking, and prime access to Ipswich’s waterfront and town centre.

“This project aligns with Ipswich Borough Council’s vision of furnishing the community with energy-

Work on the project is due to complete in October 2025.
