New hangar takes off at Dublin Airport

Posted on by in Weekly News

A series of long-span steel rafters have been installed to construct the roof of Ryanair’s new aircraft maintenance facility at Dublin Airport.

The state-of-the-art four-bay hangar will, on completion create more than 200 skilled jobs for engineers and mechanics.

Westok has value engineered the pitched rafters from UB sections, creating lightweight, cost-effective beams, with spans ranging from 12m up to 25m.

John Callanan, Design Team Manager at ASD Westok, commented: “Tent Engineering in Dublin presented the scheme to us as they were keen to explore value engineering opportunities. We reviewed the job and are delighted to see the adoption of our suggested solution of clear-span Westok rafters and spine beams throughout the roof.”

Ryanair Chief Operating Officer, Neal McMahon, said: “Our new state-of-the-art 11,140m2 facility will be one of the most environmentally-friendly hangars in Europe and will facilitate the maintenance of our growing fleet as we continue to take delivery of new technology.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for both experienced and trainee engineers and mechanics to join Ryanair and work with the biggest operator of Boeing 737s in Europe.”
