NSCApr2015covThis month’s issue of New Steel Construction (NSC) is now available online at www.newsteelconstruction.com, featuring reports from UK construction projects and updates on key technical issues from steel industry experts.

A new southern entrance for Leeds railway station is this month’s cover story. Straddling the River Aire and surrounded by buildings and busy roads, the construction of this steel-framed structure is progressing on schedule despite its challenging location.

NSC features an article on Building Information Modelling (BIM) as the construction sector’s biggest client – the UK Government – will demand next year that all of the projects it funds, with the exception of Scotland which has until 2017, use Level 2 BIM.

The retail sector is currently buoyant and NSC features two steel-framed town centre developments currently under construction in Wales and central England.

Friars Walk in Newport will create a new retail and leisure destination within a reconfigured city centre. Including a large anchor store, a retail mall and a cinema, the project is at the heart of Newport’s wider regeneration masterplan.

Meanwhile, steel is helping to revitalise the centre of Hinckley and the Crescent gets ready to open at the end of the year. This scheme will deliver a large 6,500m² Sainsbury’s superstore, more than 25 smaller retail outlets, a five-screen Cineworld complex, a revamped bus station and a 550-space undercroft car park.

The £29.5M extension to the Belfast Waterfront, Northern Ireland’s only purpose-built conference centre, will double its existing conference, exhibition and entertainment space. Situated on the banks of the River Lagan, the project will spur further regeneration along the city’s riverfront.

Wolverhampton’s first Grade A offices also feature in this latest issue of NSC, as well as the usual news pages, and a technical feature from the Steel Construction Institute.
