Market redevelopment buys into night time steel erection

Posted on by in Weekly News

Funded by the UK Government and Bury Council, the £33 million redevelopment of Bury Market is underway, with structural steelwork being erected outside of trading hours.

A new multi-functional hall, including new roof canopies for the outdoor market is being built at night, in order to allow the busy facility to remain open as usual.

Working on behalf of main contractor Vinci Building, Leach Structural Steelwork is installing 550t of steel for the project.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Growth at Bury Council, said: “Bury Market is a historic and integral part of our town centre and a staple of our borough.

“The new flexi hall and enhancements to the outdoor market, offer an exciting opportunity to boost and futureproof our famous facility.

“The scheme will also pave the way for further regeneration of the town centre, with much more to come.”

Vinci Building’s Construction Director, Stuart Brown, said: “We are delighted to be on site on this key development in the centre of Bury. There is a real sense of collaboration across the whole team in delivering this key project.

“Not only will it provide state of the art market facilities, but it will also create key opportunities to develop skills, provide training and create sustainable employment during its construction.”
