February issue of New Steel Construction online

NSCFeb2015covWebThis month’s issue of New Steel Construction is now available online at www.newsteelconstruction.com, featuring a unique blend of reports from the sites of some of the UK’s most interesting construction projects and updates on key technical issues from steel industry experts.

One of the project profiles comes from London’s famous Regent Street where redevelopment continues apace with the construction of a new six–storey mixed use scheme.

169-183 Regent Street is a steel framed structure being constructed behind listed and retained facades. To add to the construction challenges that are being overcome with the use of steel construction, the scheme has to incorporate two 300-year old listed buildings.

A uniquely shaped library and cultural centre which forms an integral part of Slough’s town centre regeneration scheme also features. Known as The Curve, Slough’s new library, which is scheduled for completion this autumn, is a highly architectural cantilevering, sloping and curving structure.

The Curve’s project engineers, Peter Brett Associates, redesigned the frame in steel instead of reinforced concrete and calculated that a saving of 35% of CO2 emissions was made.

Other project reports include the second phase of the redevelopment of the former car plant site of Longbridge. Steel construction has led the way on this scheme and currently the region’s largest Marks & Spencer store in under construction there.

A new community hall for a church in Bristol and a retail and leisure hub on the outskirts of High Wycombe also feature in this latest issue of NSC, as well as the usual news pages, and a technical feature and advisory desk notes from the Steel Construction Institute.
