Dublin academic building ready for first students
Built to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and with energy efficiency and sustainability at the heart of its design, Dublin City University’s Polaris Building has been completed.
Covering 10,000m2 and built at a cost of approximately £80 million, the net zero building uses heat pump technology and features 300m2 of rooftop PV panels.
Constructed with a steel-framed superstructure and featuring a unitised glazed and brickwork façade, the building accommodates the university’s School of Health & Human Performance.
Within the five-storey structure there are specialist research and teaching laboratories, exercise studios, information technology suites and lecture theatres.
Working on behalf of main contractor Walls Construction, Severfield fabricated, supplied and installed the steelwork.
