Bus terminal to become city landmark
Steelwork erection is due to start this month on Stoke-on-Trent’s new multi-million pound bus station, a project which forms part of a large scale redevelopment known as City Sentral.
Built on the site of a former car park, the state-of-the-art facility has been designed by architects Grimshaw and will provide a semicircular enclosed passenger concourse around two sides with buses arriving and departing from one end of the structure.
Once the new bus station is up and running later this year, the old bus station will be demolished, making room for a new shopping centre and further kick starting the city’s redevelopment.
Chris Hamer, Managing Director, Vinci Construction UK Building Division – North said: “We are helping to initiate the redevelopment of Stoke city centre with the first phase of the City Sentral, the new bus station. We are replacing a tired 1960s building with a new visually captivating facility.”
Steelwork is being carried out by Henry Smith (Constructional Engineers) and is due to be completed in May.
