Bromsgrove appoints Kier for town centre redevelopment

Posted on by in Weekly News

Bromsgrove District Council has appointed Kier Construction as main contractor for its town centre renewal project.

The council secured £14.5M of Levelling Up funding in October 2021 to convert its old market hall into a new commercial and cultural centre.

The plans include an open-plan pavilion, for hosting exhibitions, markets and community events, along with a separate commercial building with office space, a restaurant on the ground floor and a roof top food and drink outlet.

Designed by On Creative Environments and project managed by Arcadis, the scheme is designed to encourage visitors to the town centre, day and night.

Arcadis Project Manager, Phil Tranter, said: “We are excited to work with the council and Kier Construction on this exciting development, which will act as a catalyst to revitalise the High Street by increasing footfall in the form of people working, socialising or undertaking other leisure activities.”

Head of Planning, Regeneration, and Leisure for Bromsgrove District Council, Ruth Bamford, said: “Since the planning application was approved earlier this year, I am excited to see this project move into the first stage of works in the coming months. This project will help to revitalise Bromsgrove town centre; bringing opportunities for new businesses to operate, and spaces for people to meet and socialise.”
