Winners announced at 58th Structural Steel Design Awards
Six projects were Award winners at this year’s Structural Steel Design Awards (SSDA).
The winning projects at the 58th annual SSDA were Manchester Airport Terminal 2 Reconfiguration (also awarded Project of the Year); TBC.London (Special Judges’ Award and Commendation); 38 Berkeley Square, London; Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge; Fortnum & Mason Double Helix, London; and Hill Dickinson Stadium, Liverpool.
From an initial shortlist of 21 projects, all of this year’s entries once again scored highly in terms of sustainability, cost-effectiveness, efficiency and innovation, with six schemes getting Commendations and five collecting Merits.
Jointly sponsored by the British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) and Steel for Life, the SSDAs were announced at an evening reception at the Leadenhall Building in the City of London.
Chairman of the judging panel Roger Plank, said: “The variety of projects submitted this year and the high quality of all those which made it to the final stage demonstrate just what can be achieved in structural steelwork construction, and everyone involved should be proud of what has been achieved.
“It is indeed my privilege, as a judge, to have the opportunity to visit some of these schemes and to learn of the amazing achievements, so in conclusion I would like to express my gratitude to you for this and my congratulations to you all.”
