Steelwork in action published in New Civil Engineer

Posted on by in Weekly News

NCEsupp150402The latest Structural Steelwork in Action special report is available in this week’s New Civil Engineer (NCE) magazine.

Published in association with the British Constructional Steelwork Association and Tata Steel, the supplement showcases four innovative uses of steelwork and reports on the latest structural steel cost analysis.

The initial project feature reports on an eye-catching steel portal-framed entrance structure currently under construction at Leeds railway station. There a number of challenges the project team is having to overcome on this job, not least the fact that the structure straddles the River Aire.

A steel-framed extension to the Belfast Waterfront conference and entertainment venue will allow it to host larger events as well as providing the local economy with a significant boost.

Steelwork remains cost competitive as prices for fabricated steel fell in 2014 but are now firming up again despite falls in crude oil and iron ore prices. The NCE special report carries an article on the latest Gardiner & Theobald cost comparison.

An article on the Broadway Westfield shopping centre in Bradford and another on Slough’s architecturally unique curving library complete the report.
