Steel production boost at Barrett Steel

Posted on by in Weekly News

barrett150604An investment package worth £1M has been announced at Barrett Steel’s Newark plant, which will result in a production increase from 200t to more than 500t each month of CE accredited shotblasted and painted product.

Barrett Steel’s Eastern Region Managing Director Adrian Spencer said: “We have installed two new Kone 28.5 span, 5t, twin hoist cranes, a pre-heater, a paint booth and drying tunnel.

“Now steel products will originate from our outside gantries, hence the need for the new twin hoist, purpose-built outside cranes. The products will run through a pre-heater using recently installed natural gas, reaching a temperature of 30/35˚ and enter the shotblaster completely dry. From the blaster they will proceed immediately to the automated paint booth. Painted red or grey with the flick of a switch, they will then proceed to the drying tunnel and emerge touch dry.

“From there the product will go onto the lift and carry system. Should the steel require drilling and cutting, where we are again CE accredited, it will be positioned on the new spine roller and sent to the newly installed Ficep 1001 DZB saw/drill line.”

Newark Steel supplies a multitude of steel products to a wide range of customers in Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire.
