Steel frames aid malt house carbonisation

Posted on by in News

One of the largest malt houses in Europe, the Boortmalt plant in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, is set to significantly reduce its carbon emissions with the installation of heat pump technology.

To facilitate the installation of the new equipment, Steel & Roofing Systems (SRS) has completed the erection of a new 40m-high flue tower, which included the installation of four large steel truss frames.

Weighing 20t each, the truss frames were brought to site in sections, before being assembled on the ground, clad and then lifted into position over an existing building.

According to SRS, the project presented significant site and coordination challenges, requiring precise planning, close collaboration, and expert execution from the team.
