Steel-framed Monument Building completes ahead of schedule

Posted on by in Weekly News

Monument160609Skanska has completed, two weeks ahead of schedule, the construction of The Monument Building, its steel-framed 8,733m², nine-storey office-led development in the heart of the City of London.

Skanska Managing Director, Development, Andreas Lindelöf, said: “The early completion of this development is testament to the hard work of our team.

“From conception our aim was to produce a development with an emphasis on creating the best working environment for tenants, in a location where businesses want to be. The end result is a highly sustainable building that provides a beautiful backdrop to the nearby Monument.”

Work started on site at The Monument Building in December 2013 and involved the demolition of three separate buildings in Monument Street, Fish Street Hill and Pudding Lane.

Structurally, the building has been designed with a steel frame based around one eccentrically positioned concrete core. Severfield fabricated, supplied and erected 650t of steel for the project.

Most of the building is built around a grid pattern offering spans of up to 12m.

The steel erection programme was completed last July, ahead of its planned 20 weeks schedule.

Severfield Project Manager Robin Hamill put this down to the close coordination his company had with Skanska and the other trades, which ensured the steel erection and metal decking installation was carried out as efficiently as possible.
