Steel frame completes at Holborn offices
A steel beam signing ceremony has been held at Holborn Viaduct to celebrate the completion of the 13-storey office scheme’s steelwork installation.
Working on behalf of Multiplex, BHC has fabricated, supplied and erected 3,200t of structural steelwork for the central London building.
Located at the south-east intersection of Holborn Viaduct and Farringdon Street, the building has adopted a number of sustainability initiatives to help it achieve BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and WELL Platinum accreditations.
Adhering to circular economy principles, 80t of reused steel was obtained from European Metal Recycling (EMR) and incorporated into the structural frame. And Portland stone retrieved from the demolition phase will be reused to form the masonry base along the new building’s Farringdon Road elevation.
Multiplex Project Director Jon Pepper said: “As a company, we’ve built many high-rise commercial schemes in London and steel is always the choice as it is quick to erect and can efficiently create the open-plan interiors tenants want for their modern office environments.”
