Sports retailer gets a new distribution centre

Posted on by in Weekly News

Caunton Engineering has supplied the steelwork for what is said to be one of the biggest distribution centres to be built in the north west of England over the last 10 years.

Located on Rochdale’s flagship Kingsway Business Park, near Junction 21 on the M62, the 57,200m² distribution centre for JD Sports is 300m-long.

The steelwork framing comprises a five-bay portal structure, each bay measuring 37m span and 17m-high to the eaves.

Internally, the structure features a 23,200m² mezzanine level and overall 3,000t of structural steelwork has been used.

Main contractor Winvic Construction is building the distribution centre for Wilson Bowden Developments, while Caunton Engineering supplied the steelwork on a design and build basis.

Kingsway Business Park is recognised as having good transportation links as it is served by the Manchester Metro tram service. Further developments are planned on the site, including more distribution centres, offices and residential properties located around a nature reserve.
