Second steel contract awarded at Cardiff Central Square

cardiff170209ISG has secured its second contract with developer Rightacres at the prestigious Central Square development in Cardiff, winning a £32.5M steel-framed office scheme.

The win further strengthens ISG’s presence on this city gateway location, adjacent to Cardiff Central Station, as the company is already on-site constructing the new headquarters for BBC Cymru Wales.

The project consists of a circa 12,000m² 12-storey office development on the plot next to the BBC’s iconic new home in Wales. The steel-framed building, with a striking glazed façade, sits on top of a shared basement structure with the BBC, providing operational and parking capacity for both developments.

The structure includes nine floors of open-plan office accommodation and a terrace area at level seven with views over the city.

The building boasts a comfort cooling system, LED lighting throughout and advanced data connectivity. A state-of-the-art building management system (BMS) and a core focus on the environmental performance of every element of the building, will help the office to achieve its desired BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

Regional Director for ISG’s UK Construction West business Jon James commented: “Demand for highly specified office space in central Cardiff is significantly outstripping supply so it’s not surprising that there has been so much interest in this office development at such an early stage.

“Building on our partnership with Rightacres, this latest win gives us the opportunity to complete two of the key elements of the Central Square masterplan and represents a major vote of confidence in our credentials delivering high value, high quality new build schemes in Wales.”
