RIBA Journal publishes latest Steel Intelligence

ribaj170112eThe latest Steel Intelligence report is published in this week’s RIBA Journal (Friday 6th January) and can also be viewed at: www.steelconstruction.info

In this 10-page report RIBA considers the reuse of steel as the construction industry starts to engage with circular economy processes. A number of initiatives are looked at including creating a market portal and introducing material passports.

Reuse is also the theme in one of the report’s project articles on Ashton Old Baths in Greater Manchester. The building has been reborn as offices with the insertion of a new steel structure within the former pool hall.

In Cambridge, Marks Barfield’s new primary school for the University of Cambridge is designed to be future-proof with flexibility to change both within and beyond its current footprint.

The report concludes with an article by Maria Smith, architect and founding director of architecture and engineering practice Interrobang, on SOM’s Exchange House in the City of London.
