Recycling boost for Walsall

Posted on by in Weekly News

Morgan Sindall Construction has been awarded the £32M contract to construct a new Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station in Walsall.

The project is part of Walsall Council’s strategy to modernise and enhance waste management services in the area. The facilities will play a crucial role in meeting local and national waste management objectives by reducing landfill and increasing recycling rates.

The new Middlemore Lane centre will feature a maximum throughput capacity of 40,000 tonnes per annum across 19 bays. In addition, there will also be weighbridges, service yards, offices and welfare facilities for staff.

The project, procured through Pagabo’s Major Works Framework, is scheduled to be completed within 64 weeks, with Morgan Sindall overseeing all aspects of the technical design and construction.

Morgan Sindall Construction Midlands Area Director Richard Fleming, said: “Waste management facilities are a crucial part of our everyday infrastructure, and through this partnership with Walsall Council and Pagabo we’re delivering high-quality, sustainable infrastructure to meet the needs of the local community.

“Our team’s intelligent solutions approach has seen the project save over 350 tonnes of carbon, so we’re not only delivering sustainable infrastructure, but delivering it in the most environmentally friendly way possible.”
