Plans in for Bedfordshire film studio

A former quarry at Stewartby in Bedfordshire has been earmarked for the UK’s latest film studio.

The film and TV production sector is currently burgeoning, as a number of facilities are either under construction or have been recently completed. This development is anticipated to bring 1,400 jobs to the local area if approved.

The Client, Yondr Group, purchased the 143-acre site last year to bring forward the significant film and television studio campus.

According to architect Scott Brownrigg, the Bedfordshire facility will set a new benchmark for studios in the UK. It will be the first facility designed by producers for producers. The state-of-the-art film and television campus is designed to be efficient and promote wellbeing for the cast and crew. With flexible studio and production facilities together with onsite accommodation, amenities and a re-wilded water body and canal.

A transport hub will connect the site to the local bus network with an arrival point for cyclists, pedestrians and coaches.

Scott Brownrigg Head of Masterplanning Bruce Calton, said: “This complex brief, across an intriguing site, combines landscape, water and a highly functional film and television campus masterplan. It has been a rewarding experience creating such a unique setting for the home of production within the UK.”
