Plans approved for listed office block extension

Developer Castleforge has been given planning permission by the City of London Corporation’s Planning and Transportation Committee for the refurbishment and extension of Cripplegate House.

Built in the 1890s, the office block at 1 Golden Lane has been refurbished a number of times and this current scheme will retain much of the original façade and floorplates.

The refurbished and extended building will add an extra 2,485m2 of space to the existing site to meet continuing strong demand from occupiers in the Square Mile.

The scheme will form part of Culture Mile, with the community and cultural space at ground level set to be combined with new public artwork and murals around the site. This will be accompanied with other public realm and lighting enhancements around the site.

It will be designed to high sustainability standards, incorporating a significant element of integrated urban greening, climate resilience and energy efficiency. The scheme is targeting a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating.

Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Planning and Transportation Committee, Shravan Joshi, said: “This scheme delivers Grade A flexible and sustainable office floorspace for City businesses and workers, as well as a new community hub at the heart of Culture Mile for everyone to enjoy.

“It underlines the ongoing robust demand for office space in the City as developers and investors look to the future with confidence.

“The redeveloped building will enhance the surrounding area and place sustainability at its core.”
