Milestone reached at University of Oxford’s largest building project
Wates Construction South has delivered practical completion of the University of Oxford’s Life and Mind Building, which will provide a new home for the departments of Biology and Experimental Psychology.
Representing the University’s largest-ever construction project, the building is situated at the gateway to Oxford’s Science Area and replaces the Tinbergen Building which closed in February 2017.
A flagship example of sustainable and modern higher education construction, the building is set across two wings that are linked by a central atrium.
Providing more than 24,900m2 of space, the design ensures maximum flexibility, allowing for collaboration between the two departments.
Mark Craig, Managing Director, Wates Construction South said: “The Life and Mind Building is a shining example of what can be achieved when vision, expertise and collaboration come together. Reaching practical completion on a project of this scale and significance is a proud moment for everyone involved.
“I’d like to thank our teams, partners and supply chain who’ve helped deliver a truly world-class facility.”
Bourne Steel fabricated, supplied and erected the project’s steelwork.
