The June issue of New Steel Construction (NSC) is now available in both digital and print formats that will be arriving in the post this week.

Anyone who does not receive the print magazine and would like a free subscription (UK and Ireland only) should visit www.steelconstruction.info while readers who prefer the digital offering of NSC can find it at www.newsteelconstruction.com

This month’s cover story is a project revisit to the completed Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s new home, which is the first purpose-built music college to be constructed in the UK for more than 30 years.

Sustainability is featured in this issue of NSC, with the first article of a two-part series answering frequently asked questions on sustainability for the steel construction sector. In the News section, there is a report on the updated Steel Construction Sustainability Charter.

The centrepiece venue for next year’s Birmingham Commonwealth Games is celebrating the completion of steelwork erection. The Alexander Stadium will host athletics, and the opening and closing ceremonies.

In the middle of London’s West End, a steel-framed mixed-use development is taking shape behind a retained façade. Known as 1-4 Marble Arch, the scheme will create three floors of retail with seven levels of office space above.

Mercia Park in Leicestershire has big plans afoot, with the construction of a DSV distribution centre currently underway, and five more industrial units, leased to Jaguar Land Rover, due to start soon.

The first of three steel bridges for a major Lancashire road scheme has been installed. The Preston Western Distributor will link the A583 with the M5 motorway, creating a new city bypass to alleviate traffic congestion.

NSC reports from Warrington on the latest Lok’nStore project, which will provide storage space for householders, institutions and businesses alike. The self-storage market has grown rapidly in the last decade and steel construction has proven to be the ideal solution for these projects.

NSC also features a sector focus on structural fasteners, industry news, a technical article and advisory desk from the Steel Construction Institute, and codes and standards updates
