Ground broken for £20 million Newcastle leisure centre

Working on behalf of Newcastle City Council, Morgan Sindall Construction North East has started work on a community facility that will serve as a hub for sport, health, and local services.

Procured via the Pagabo framework, the Outer West Leisure Centre will house two swimming pools with movable floors, a competition pool, splash pad, training pools, sauna and steam room, sports hall, library, gym, and offices.

Newcastle City Council Director of Public Health, Alice Wiseman, said: “I am incredibly excited that work has started on the leisure centre and swimming pool at West Denton.

“It will offer residents first-class health and leisure facilities as well as a new library substantially improving their quality of life.

It’s taken a lot of hard work and some dedicated partnership working to get to this stage, but I am thrilled that Morgan Sindall has now commenced the construction phase and I look forward with hope and optimism that the centre will be completed in late 2027.”
