Contractor named for Newcastle academic project

Posted on by in Weekly News

Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed by the Department for Education (DfE) to build a new secondary school in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The Callerton Academy will comprise a multi-use three-storey building built around a central core that includes teaching facilities, a flexible space for dining, assemblies and theatre, and an administrative area.

Contributing to the project’s CO2-neutral status, the building will have a green roof with an array of solar panels.

Adjoining the main building, a dedicated sports facility will accommodate a gym, sports hall and changing rooms. The sports amenities are designed to operate beyond school hours, providing opportunities for the local community.

Outdoor sports areas will include a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), three full-size pitches, a running track and a small practice pitch.

Alex Isted, North East Director for Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Gosforth Group and the DfE to create a world-class learning environment for students at Callerton Academy.

“The development will have such a positive impact for young people in Newcastle, in addition to bringing economic and social benefits for the wider community too.”

The project is set to be completed in the summer of 2025.
