Canary Wharf’s landmark tower set for major transformation

The 45-storey 8 Canada Square steel-framed tower in the heart
of the London Docklands estate could be transformed if a
multi-million-pound scheme gets the go-ahead.
Planning proposals, which include reconfiguring the upper
levels into landscaped terraces, have been submitted by
Canary Wharf Group and the building’s owner Qatar
Investment Authority to the local council.
While some of the office floors will be retained, much of the
former bank headquarters will be converted into a 181-room
hotel, with the upper floors accommodating restaurants and
leisure facilities.
Named the Cloud, levels 42 and 43 would be radically altered
in order to create a publicly accessible rooftop venue, which
would boast panoramic views across the capital.
Work on the project could start in 2028.
