Bristol city centre shopping centre to be redeveloped

Posted on by in Weekly News

Locally-based developer Deeley Freed, working with LaSalle Investment Management, is working on a £550M plan to redevelop the existing Galleries Shopping Centre in the heart of Bristol.

The company said the development of this 4.8-acre city centre site offers an unprecedented opportunity to revitalise Bristol city centre.

The proposals involve replacing the existing shopping centre and multi-storey car park with a modern mixed-used development including offices, purpose-built student accommodation, residential (open-market, affordable housing and build to rent), an aparthotel and mixed retail – all to be built around a new pedestrian landscaped street.

The centre’s owners said that footfall in The Galleries has not recovered to pre-pandemic levels and the centre is seeing increasing numbers of empty shops, which has led to its continuing existence being in doubt.

A formal planning application is expected to be submitted early next year and work could start onsite in 2024, with completion set for 2027.
