BCSA launches new contractual handbook

The British Constructional Steelwork Association’s Contractual Handbook which has provided crucial guidance for steelwork contractors for over 25 years has been updated for 2019.

Now titled the ‘Construction Contractual Handbook’ this new 5th edition is an essential tool which sets out the law and contracts for specialist contractors in a compact and accessible way.

As well as an overview of contractual terms and applicable law for English law contracts, the handbook also contains chapters on both Scottish and Irish law contracts. It includes checklists going through the course of a contract and also a chapter explaining some of the most common onerous clauses or changes that sub-contractors might come across.

BCSA Director of Legal and Contractual Affairs Marion Rich said: “It is now more important than ever for specialist contractors to be vigilant in their contractual arrangements. Short and succinct, this handbook covers a lot of ground in a compact form.”

While it was originally written for steelwork contractors, the Construction Contractual Handbook is equally applicable to other specialist contractors and main contractors.

The electronic version remains available to BCSA members free of charge on the members’ area of www.steelconstruction.org, but this 5th edition is also now available in hard copy from Construction Industry Publications (www.cip-books.com/product/construction-contractual-handbook-5th-edition), with BCSA members receiving a 50% discount.
