Ayr leisure centre set for major redevelopment

Main contractor, Robertson Construction has started work on the £10M redevelopment of the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr.

Working on behalf of South Ayrshire Council, the comprehensive refurbishment work will include a new entrance and reception, kitchen, changing rooms, spa, café, gym, party rooms and a first aid room.

Andy McLinden, Regional Managing Director, Robertson Construction Central West, said: “Working with Alliance Leisure to support the council in improving and revamping the existing buildings for local communities, the much-loved Citadel Leisure Centre will receive a transformation of its facilities.”

South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, Councillor Brian Connolly, said: “I’m pleased that we have a started works. This is the first step towards bringing the building up to modern standards for our customers, sport and leisure members.”

Alan Cadger, Project Director for architect Holmes Miller, added: “This is a prime example of breathing new life into an existing building to create a vibrant and sustainable hub than enhances the lives of its surrounding community.”
