Broadgate’s latest steel-framed development is this month’s cover story. A 14-storey office block, which is British Land’s most energy efficient building to date, forms the fifth of six planned phases at the City of London scheme.

At the University of Bristol’s new campus, a series of long-span steel trusses have been installed to create large flexible teaching spaces at the Academic Building. The structure is the centrepiece of a wider scheme, set to regenerate a large site adjacent to the city’s main railway station.

Steel construction is providing three vital bridges and 19 gantries for the M25 Junction 10 upgrade. The material has been chosen as it is quicker to assemble and erect, which thereby minimises motorway disruption.

Sustainability is at the core of the design for the redevelopment of a well-known Dublin building. Steelwork has been removed from the lower levels of the Treasury Building and reused elsewhere to help form new upper levels.

NSC also features an article on CE Marking of fabricated steelwork, a Steel for Life gold sponsor article from Jamestown, industry news, a technical article and advisory desk from the Steel Construction Institute, and codes and standards updates.
