Work starts on Panattoni’s largest UK speculative warehouse
Main contractor Winvic has started work on a 278,892m2 warehouse in Swindon, which represents developer Panattoni’s largest-ever UK speculative unit.
Being built on the former Honda car manufacturing site, the warehouse is the second phase of work on the plot, following the completion of a large-scale demolition package.
Aiming to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and EPC A+ ratings, the 21m-high warehouse will feature 125 docks and eight level access doors. Additionally, it will have two-storey internal offices, two external hub offices and a separate gatehouse.
Preliminary works have involved extensive earthworks of approximately 800,000m3 to create development plateaus. Winvic has also delivered infrastructure including foul and stormwater drainage systems, estate road construction, site utilities, highway access alterations and strategic footpaths and cycleways.
Danny Nelson, Winvic’s Managing Director of Industrial, Logistics and Distribution, said: “It’s a privilege to continue our strong relationship with Panattoni and to be entrusted with delivering its largest ever speculative unit, following the successful completion of the complex first phase.
“The demolition and enabling works presented significant challenges — not just due to the scale, but also the sensitive management of existing infrastructure on the brownfield site. And the latest appointment is testament to our expertise in delivering high-quality industrial projects with industry-leading sustainability credentials.”
