The 1985 Structural Steel and Design Awards and Commendations, selected in strong competition by the panel of judges, illustrate the high capability of steel to meet a wide range of industrial, commercial and transportation construction requirements under a variety of environmental circumstances.

Levels of skill in design and fabrication techniques such as those now recognised in particular high degree, are playing an important role in the appreciation of the many advantages of steel construction which include the well known provision of economy, integrity, precision and speed.

Those responsible for the winning structures this year have made a further important contribution to the successful achievement of the Scheme’s purpose to demonstrate and encourage realisation of the maximum potentials of building in steel.
